On May 4, 2016, the Town hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Gateway - Phases One and Two. The Gateway highlights the trail and shelter along the west side of Green Street between I-74 and Northfield Drive. The Gateway represents the first step in connecting the neighborhoods north of I-74 to the retail district and, eventually, to Arbuckle Acres Park. In addition, the Indiana Racing Memorial Association paid tribute to Larry Rice, Brownsburg resident and auto racing legend, with a memorial marker on site.

During summer 2017 work continued on the Gateway with the construction of an enhanced crosswalk to safely cross Green Street, as well as the addition of sidewalk beneath I-74 that will meet up with the sidewalk along Crew Car Wash. There also are sidewalk improvements planned along Whittington Drive by Applebee’s and south of I-74 to Starbucks.

The White Lick Creek Trail is currently in the planning phase and will connect the Gateway projects to Arbuckle Acres Park via White Lick Creek. It will consist of a trail and elevated boardwalk along the route giving users a unique experience traveling this section. Currently, staff is working with Army Corps of Engineers, Indiana Department of Environmental Management and the Department of Natural Resources to obtain approvals. Once approval is received from state and federal agencies, staff will move forward with the design phase. Due to the topography of this section, it is too early to say when the project will be completed, however we will provide updates as the project progresses.
