Testing Procedures
Sworn Officer Applicant Testing & Process Phases
Individuals applying for a position as a sworn officer of this department must be able to demonstrate physical, mental, and interview skills. In addition, individuals must successfully complete a thorough background investigation including (verification of qualifying credentials, criminal records, personal references, and credit history), physical examination, psychological examination, and truth-verification examination. All phases of the process are administered, scored, evaluated, and interpreted in a uniform manner within the classification. All selection process phases for a law enforcement officer are job-related and considered in accordance with requirements, responsibilities, duties, and training academy requirements. The testing types and phases of the sworn officer applicant process are outlined as follows:
- Background Investigation
- Completion of Formal Application
- Completion of a Pre-Application Form and Application of Credential Credits
- Conditional Offer
- Medical and Psychological Examination
- Oral Executive Staff Interview
- Oral Staff Interview
- Physical Agility (Indiana Law Enforcement Academy EXIT Standards)
- Written Exam
Civilian Applicant Testing & Process Phases
Individuals applying for a position as a civilian of this department must be able to demonstrate the ability to perform job-specific tasks, mental testing, and interview skills. In addition, individuals must successfully complete a thorough background investigation and physical examination. All selection process phases for a civilian are job-related and considered in accordance with requirements, responsibilities, and duties. The testing types and phases of the civilian applicant process are outlined as follows:
- Applicable Task-Oriented Examination (i.e. computer skills, data manipulation)
- Background Investigation
- Completion of Pre-Application Form and Application of Credential Credits
- Conditional Offer
- Drug Screening
- Oral Interview
- Written Exam
