  1. Monthly Home Smoke Alarm Testing

    March 2, 2021, All Day

    Smoke alarms should be maintained according to manufacturer’s instructions. Test smoke alarms at least once a month using the test button. Make sure everyone in the home understands the sound of the smoke alarm and knows how to respond. Follow manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning to keep smoke alarms working well. The instructions are included in the package or can be found on the internet. Smoke alarms with non-replaceable 10-year batteries are designed to remain effective for up to 10 years. If the alarm chirps, warning that the battery is low, replace the entire smoke alarm right away. Smoke alarms with any other type of battery need a new battery at least once a year. If that alarm chirps, warning the battery is low, replace the battery right away.

  10. Brighter Together Virtual Candlelight Vigil

    Next month, the country will mark the one year anniversary of President Donald J. Trump declaring a national emergency due to COVID-19. To honor those in Hendricks County who have lost their lives during the pandemic, officials representing the towns of Avon, Brownsburg, Danville and Plainfield will come together to host a livestreamed event called “Brighter Together,” a virtual candlelight vigil on Sat., March 13. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the public is asked to stay home and participate in the ceremony by placing a candle in their windows to show their support. The virtual ceremony will be live-streamed on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/hendrickscountycommunityfoundation beginning at 7 p.m. Nearly 350 luminarias will be placed at Avon Town Hall Park to honor every Hendricks County resident who has passed away from the virus.
