The Town of Brownsburg has won the Exceptional Park Design Award for 2021 projects, awarded by the Indiana Parks and Recreation Association. The award is for Stephens Park, 605 S. Stephen Dr., a 3.2-acre park in the central part of Brownsburg.
“We’re grateful for this recognition,” said Brownsburg Town Council President Travis Tschaenn. “Stephens Park is a hidden gem for visitors. The improved space meets several community needs, serving as a destination for residents of all ages and abilities.”

Stephens Park has been in the Town’s park system since 1998. The renovation project was developed to resolve issues with undesirable activity due to insufficient lighting and outdated features. In addition, the design addressed community needs, including accessible and inclusive play equipment while maintaining the park’s original characteristics.
Construction was completed in the spring of 2021. Renovations included six pickleball courts, a year-round restroom facility, outdoor fitness equipment, a paved loop path, and a universally-designed playground.
A park district bond funded improvements to the park.
“We were thrilled to reopen Stephens Park with new and improved multi-generational amenities that allowed residents to play, exercise, and enjoy the space,” said Park Board President Judy Kenninger.
