Early Career
Joe Grimes began his law enforcement career with the Brownsburg Police Department in 1999. He has served the police department in many capacities, including as a Shift Supervisor, a K9 Handler, the first explosive detection K9 dual-purpose dog in Hendricks County. He also helped develop the Emergency Response Team (
SWAT) for the Brownsburg Police Department.
Police Commission
In 2010, he was promoted by the Police Commission to Lieutenant and selected to serve as the appointed Major of the Operations Division. He was promoted to Chief of Police in 2017 after former Chief Mike Dove announced his retirement.
Education
Grimes studied Criminology at Indiana State University. After completing Reserve Academy, he became a Reserve Officer with the Clermont Police Department. Post-college, he landed a full-time position as a Hendricks County Sheriff’s Department Jail Deputy while serving as Reserve with Clermont.
