Every year, I have the pleasure of addressing a very special group of community members: participants in our morning fitness classes.

More than 100 seniors – or as they prefer to be called, Active Adults – are enrolled in our yoga, weight training and walking programs. They range in age from 50 to 85. And trust me, they are hard to keep up with!

Knowing the community’s top priorities and the critical spaces needed to ensure a successful facility provides us with a starting point for design and budget discussions. At our April 23, 24 and 25 meetings, the community will take part in hands-on activities with our project team to help identify important details including preferences regarding building size, the acceptable range of costs for specific amenities, preferred ways of financing construction, and target cost-recovery goals for operating the facility.

This spring, residents and park users will play a large role in determining the features that could be included in a future multigenerational community center. Through hands-on exercises, participants will work together to determine solutions that can address multiple community needs and/or priorities for indoor recreation.

We’ve attended conferences and spoken to other park departments and foundations locally and across the nation to learn how a park foundation can help strengthen our parks and our town.

For the past several years, Brownsburg Parks has worked to lay the foundation for the creation of a multigenerational community center.  Whenever our team is out in the parks speaking with park users, we can tell the community is excited about this project and the many social, physical and economic benefits it can bring to Brownsburg.
