He may not know how to change a water pump on Barney, the big purple truck that cleans out the Town’s sewers, but for the past two-and-a-half years Bob Worth has made himself indispensable at Fleet Services.

At 70 years old, Bob is in constant motion, performing janitorial duties and fetching car parts for the mechanics. He literally drives all over the area seeking parts so the mechanics can focus on the work in front of them.

“I’m the type of person that needs to stay busy,” said Bob, explaining why he enjoys working versus settling into retirement.

He’s certainly earned time off. Growing up in Brownsburg, Bob worked for all of the local farmers in the summers, doing everything from slopping pigs to baling hay.

He spent more than 60 years working in the grocery business at places like Marsh and Standard Grocery.

Three years ago, Jim Waggoner hired Bob to help the Street Department cut grass in the summer. Then he learned of the opportunity at Fleet and jumped at it.

“All the guys in the shop are excellent. I have never had a boss like Chris,” said Bob.

“He’s happy all the time. You can’t upset him. No matter how bad the day, he’s got a way to get over that hump.”

The respect goes both ways. All of the staff members have nothing but high praise for Bob.

“We recently had a birthday party for Bob, and you could tell it meant a lot to him,” said Shop Foreman Aaron Starr. “He’s a big part of our team.”
