It finally happened: spring has arrived! With the warmer weather, a lot of us are starting spring cleaning to freshen up a home that's been closed up all winter and prepare the yard for growing season.

If you've started spring cleaning, I hope that you will take advantage of the clean-up and recycling events happening on Saturday, April 12. Residents and businesses can take computers, appliances, electronics and other items that are usually hard to recycle to the Town of Brownsburg's One Stop Drop Off from 9 to 2 at the Fleet Maintenance facility (221 S. Mardale Drive). There is a $5 processing fee for glass computer monitors and TVs. Click here for the list of what's accepted.

Get rid of chemicals, thermometers and light bulbs that contain mercury, batteries, fire extinguishers, and unwanted medicines at the Hendricks County Solid Waste Management District's Tox-Away Day. Those items are accepted for no charge at the event from 8 to 1 on Saturday at Brownsburg High School. Appliances, TVs and tires will be accepted for recycling at a small fee. Visit the website and scroll down for the details.

Got tree limbs and brush cleared from your yard? Take advantage of the Town of Brownsburg's free curbside limb pickup. Our street crew runs a chipper truck Monday through Friday each week, April through October, to recycle yard waste. There's no charge for this service, just stack your limbs at the curb. See which day the chipper is in your neighborhood on this handy color-coded map.

If you have leaves and other yard waste, please don't blow it into the street or dump it into into a swale, ditch, or creek. The Hendricks County Solid Waste Management District has a yard waste recycling center at 90 Mardale Drive where you can properly dispose of grass and leaves. It's open 7 am to 5 pm on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Details and costs can be found here.

While the weather is warming up and you have the itch to throw open the windows and clean out the medicine cabinets and under the sink -- or you're rolling up your sleeves to give your landscaping some TLC -- take advantage of these convenient, and mostly free, services!
