What are the requirements to becoming a police officer for the Police Department?


Minimum Requirements - Police Officer All persons seeking employment with the Brownsburg Police Department, as a law enforcement officer must: 1.Be a United States citizen; 2.Be a resident of Hendricks county or a contiguous county of Hendricks County, Indiana or become a resident within one (1) year of employment; 3.Be at least twenty-one (21) years of age and comply with PERF age requirements. 4.Possess a valid Indiana Driver's License; 5.Have a high school diploma or GED, with official transcripts obtained. 6.Successfully complete all required training as established by the Indiana Law Enforcement Training Board 7.Never have been convicted of a felony or currently under indictment for any criminal offense; 8.Never been convicted of any family violence offense; 9.Not be prohibited by state or federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition; 10.Be subject to a thorough background investigation and personal interviews by Brownsburg Police Department personnel; 11.If served in the armed forces of any country, demonstrate stability, reliability, & integrity, by having an Honorable or General Discharge. Acceptance of a General Discharge is dependent upon honorable circumstances and a letter of explanation must be attached to the application. 12.Have never had a commission or law enforcement officer license denied by final order or revoked; 13.Not be currently on suspension, or have a voluntary surrender of a law enforcement license currently in effect; 14.Demonstrate reading and comprehension skills in the English language through interviews and written testing; 15.Demonstrate honesty and integrity, by successfully completing pre-employment background investigation, truth verification testing and drug testing; 16.Demonstrate good general medical health as determined by a medical doctor, who is licensed by the Indiana State Board of Medical Examiners, and physical performance testing; 17.Be declared in satisfactory psychological and emotional health by a psychologist, who is licensed by the Indiana State Board of Examiners of Psychologists; and 18.Be fingerprinted and subjected a search of local, state, and national records and fingerprint files. 19.Agree to and execute the Police Officer Training Agreement as directed by the Board of Police Commission wherein the new hire agrees to reimburse the department for training expenses incurred during their first thirty-six months of employment if separation were to occur within that timeframe and under circumstances where repayment would be applicable.
